Micron Announces $24 Billion Singapore Expansion for AI Chip Production
Micron Technology (MU) unveiled plans for a $24 billion Singapore expansion to meet surging demand for memory chips. The double-storey wafer fab, first of its kind in Singapore, will add 700,000 sq ft of cleanroom capacity at its existing NAND complex. Production begins H2 2028.
The MOVE comes as AI applications strain global semiconductor supply chains. Micron's stock has quadrupled in 12 months amid the AI boom, yet the company vows to avoid oversupply through flexible capacity ramps.
Singapore's investment marks a strategic play in the US-China tech cold war. The facility will create 1,600 high-tech jobs, strengthening Asia's position in the global memory market.
